Parenting Coordination
Parenting Coordination is a new form of combined family mediation and family arbitration that is gaining in interest and support in the United States and Canada. This is a service for divorced parents who continue to experience high conflict with each other when they try to make plans for their children. Usually the parents have a parenting plan in place (minutes of settlement) but are unable to make the parenting plan work between them.
Parenting coordinators help parents to mediate disputes in their parenting plan, and with the parents' prior consent, a parenting coordinator can arbitrate settlements if mediation fails.
As a parenting coordinator I have received training in parenting coordination, family arbitration, domestic violence screening, and family law. I meet the Attorney General's requirements for family arbitration. I practice parenting coordination under supervision.
If you and your former partner think that you could benefit from parenting coordination you should first seek independent legal advice. I will accept time-limited contracts for parenting coordination between couples that I have not seen in therapy, and for whom I think that I would be an appropriate mediator/arbitrator.
